Risen

Authors: Elizabeth Ditchburn, Heather Grove, and Joshua G. Timbrook
Average review score:

True vengeance for the dead... awesome book
A book for true "Crow" fans. Sure, this book has many similarities to the awesome movies and graphic novels, but it is also very original in other spots. My only complaint was that it was too short and they didn't give me enough Arcanoi to play with. Oh well...

As a Supplement 2 Wraith / an addition 2 Vampire great book
One of my favorite supplements I have seen from White Wolf in a long time. Its so simple its brilliant. The Risen can even pass for vampires in a Vampire chronicle.

Riviting
I met Yoko on a trip from the UK to the USA we talked and talked the 10 hour trip was more like 1 hour, she later sent me her book, I could not put it down. I was so pleased to have met this wonderful person.

Tales from the Bamboo Grove
This was a great book. Yoko talked about times when she was a young girl. When they would eat dinner they would be able to share stories about their day. This book is a collection of some of the stories that her brother, sister and herself would share.

The Biggest Birthday Cake in the World

The Biggest Question in the World!
Excuse my asking, did anyone notice the illustrator's choice of scribbling? We checked many books ilustrated by Rosanne Litzinger and we cannot figure out why she chose to mark the pages the way she did. We were thinking that maybe it was an accident until we saw the cover and it was the same as the paper cover. Then we read about the iluustrator and noticed that she loves children's books, so we were thinking that she probably asked a child to help her. We then read the deication page and read that it was dedicated to children, but we are still wondering why the artist chose to scribble scrabble. We think the colors have something to do with the story and how people feel in the book. Maybe blue means sad, and red means happy It could be the smell. Maybe she drew it as the smell. We really like the way the author used big, tremendous words for the three vice presidents. It is a good book for questioning work. Our class had at least 100 questions. The one we thought about the most was the question about the illustrations. I think this is a good book for kindergartners to read. We are in third grade and everyone liked this story.

Challenge of the Druid's Grove (One-On-One Gamebooks, No 4/Advanced Dungeons and Dragons Adventure)
Published in Paperback by TSR Hobbies (December, 1985)
Author: James M. Ward
Average review score:

Quick Adventuring/Newbie Adventuring
The AD&D One on One books are a great way to do some quick adventuring or to intoduce a newbie (especially a teen or pre-teen) to the wonders of role playing games. The books work somewhat in the "choose your own adventure" genre, but incorporate dice roll determined random events, battles and interactions with NPCs (non player characters) into the readers decision making. The books are a bit complicated for those starting out, so I suggest either two advanced players adventure together, or one advanced player guide a newbie through the adventure. These books are out of print now, which is a shame, but if you are interested in taking an exciting but brief trip into the world of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (and you can get your hands on one or two of these books), you're in for a lot of fantasty fun!

Circling Windrock Mountain: 200 Years in Appalachia
Published in Paperback by Univ of Tennessee Pr (March, 1999)
Author: Augusta Grove Bell
Average review score:

Enjoy a Historical Tour
As the title suggests, this book is about the history of the area surrounding Windrock Mountain, Tennessee, beginning with the earliest non-native settlers in the late 1700's. For the most part, the book is structured like a tour of the main route around the mountain. The book is partly based on a series of articles by the author when she was a writer for the Oak Ridger Newspaper until 1970. Her original contribution is documenting her interviews of, and tours with, descendents of early settlers. She also presents information from older newspaper articles and other sources, and the old pictures included in the book are a treat. The book is good reading for someone who is interested in the history of this relatively remote area. The area is only a short distance from Oak Ridge, the Atomic City. It previously supported thousands of farmers and coal miners and their families, and is now home to three 200+ feet tall TVA windmills on Buffalo Mountain (next to Windrock Mountain).

Classic Virginia rivers : a paddler's guide to premier whitewater and scenic float trips in the Old Dominion

Excellent - A must for Viginia paddlers
Lots of detail, and tons of info. Has all rivers or streams worth floating in the state, with the infl needed to float them. Also includes maps. Would have given book five stars except maps being very detailed are a bit small and hard to read.

Commonwealth Universities Yearbook 2000 (Commonwealth Universities Yearbook, 2000)
Published in Paperback by Assn of Commonwealth Univ (August, 2000)
Authors: Association of Commonwealth Universities, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, and Groves
Average review score:

Sort of Useful???
As all the editions that preceded this one, there's a list of all the universities under the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), the major contact details for all universities in Commonwealth / ex-Commonwealth countries, and full departmental contact details for those who are ACU's members. The universities are listed under sections, one for each country. At the beginning of each section there's a short informative history of HE institutions in the country.
OK. So it's useful, but in this age when the majority, if not all, of HE institutions are online and most departments have their own webpage, what is the point of having this big giant book (in 3 volumes, if I remember correctly) when you already have a big computer with internet connection sitting on your desk and you're dying for some extra desk space?

Drug-Induced Ocular Side Effects (4th Ed)
Published in Hardcover by Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins (April, 1996)
Authors: Joan A. Grove and Frederick T. Fraunfelder
Average review score:

A must for the eye doctor!
This is a great concise text that presents the ocular side effects of almost every drug that's on the market. I have yet to find a drug that is not in there. While there are constantly new drugs being formulated and released there may not always be what you are searching for in this book...but there will be that drug category which will give a good idea to the practitioner about what to expect. This book saves time and frustration for the Optometrist or Ophthalmologist in that we do not have to repeatedly look at the PDR and sift through the mounds of information presented in it.
